New Counter Terrorism Campaign Launched Aimed at Young People

The national counter-terrorism police has launched a new campaign aimed at bringing the ‘action counters terrorism’ messages to young people. In a campaign aimed at 11-16 year olds, in partnership with The Sun will feature a range of activity and will use public figures like Bear Grylls and Jamie Vardy to get messages across.

You can help to get the campaign film and messages out there far and wide. The Youtube link and video is below along with copies to the posters you can display.

Police advice, wherever possible, is to follow the Run Hide Tell guidance until officers arrive on the scene. The guidance recommends RUN, if you can, if you can’t run, HIDE and then, when you can, TELL the police what’s happening so they can get help there quickly to stop the threat. Also tell others of the threat so they don’t approach danger.

HOW CAN YOU TALK TO CHILDREN ABOUT SUCH ATTACKS?

What can parents do to talk to their children about what’s happened?

  • Listen carefully to a child’s fears and worries
  • Do not panic a child by speculating on reasons or fears of future attacks.
  • Offer reassurance and comfort and avoid complicated and worrying explanations that could leave them more frightened and confused.
  • Help them find advice and support to understand distressing events and feelings.
  • Children can always contact Childline, adults can contact the Helpline free and confidentially 24/7 on 0808 800 5000.

The counter terrorism hotline number is: 0800 789 321 or call 999 in an emergency.
